Ice Climbing Training & Conditioning

What is involved in Ice Climbing?

There are two major types of ice climbing outings. One involves climbing flowing water that has frozen, such as a frozen waterfall. The other involves climbing steep, compact snow and ice typically found high on a mountain. The goal of climbing on water ice is usually to find a place to climb challenging ice routes, whereas the goal of climbing alpine ice is usually to reach a peak that requires ascending several pitches of ice.
